The Association des pédiatres et pédodontiste du Québec recommends this consultation from the age of one or when the first tooth appears. It’s the perfect opportunity to start instilling good dental hygiene habits. However, the majority of children are examined around the age of 2 and over, once they have acquired most of their baby teeth.
Children under 10 in Quebec are eligible for free dental care covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). Coverage includes annual and emergency check-ups, x-rays, anesthesia, fillings, crowns, extractions and certain oral surgery treatments. However, RAMQ does not cover cleaning, scaling, fluoride application, pit and fissure sealing, or orthodontics.
